Summer will arrive before we know it! As the weather continues to get better my husband and I have started talking about summer trips. One of our favorites places to explore is Colorado with its beautiful summer weather. Here are 3 of our favorite places to go in the summer:
#1- Royal Gorge
My first trip to the Royal Gorge was after the 2013 fire that damaged the bridge, but before it re-opened. We went back the following summer and were able to walk across the bridge and enjoy the newly renovated visitors center. I’m actually really glad I was able to experience the gorge away from the crowds and to see the bridge from a distance. It was a completely different experience that being right on the bridge. I loved both trips and the different views they afforded. There is a gondola that you can take across the gorge and also a zip line for the more adventurous. (You can see more details of our trip here.)
#2 – Garden of the Gods
We stayed in Colorado Springs when we made a trip to the nearby Garden of the Gods. The 300 ft. tall formations look like the perfect place to film a movie. In my research I discovered that the 1994 mini-series “The Stand” by Stephen King was filmed there. There is a 1.1 mile paved trail through the main section of the park and it gives you good access to the entire park. It is a very popular location for rock climbers, but you definitely have to know what you are doing. (Here are more details of our trip.)
#3 – Pikes Peak
Pikes Peak was a stop we actually made on our motorcycle. The elevation at the entrance to the park is 7,400 ft. while at the top it is 14,110 ft. The temperature continued to drop the higher we rode so I was very thankful that we had planned for cold weather and not freezing. The temperature at the top was 44 degrees. And this was in August! (You can see the rest of our trip here.)
We haven’t settled exactly where we are going this summer, but Colorado just might make the list. Do you know of any other amazing places that we should go for a summer trip? Please leave me a comment if you do and have a fun summer!
